Better Pictures of the New Babies

When I was out feeding the pigs and chickens earlier today, I was able to get some better pictures of the new buffalo calves.

This is one of them, and below is the other one.

They are both in the picture below.  The one can't be seen really well, but is laying down right next to its mother on the left.

It's going to be fun to watch the young ones grow, and I imagine we might see them out running and playing with each other once they become a little bigger and more accustomed to their surroundings.

Running to keep up with mom.

I was lucky to be out there when one cow/calf pair came close to the fence.

Have a happy Monday!

  1. I would just love to actually see buffalo. How neat it must be to have them so close!

    1. It is very cool to have them here. We can't get very close to them, though; the bull tends to get more than a bit perturbed if anyone gets too close. I'm glad to have the fence between them and us.

  2. Wow, buffalo! My daughter and I were wondering why you are keeping buffalo? I can't say I've come across anyone else that keeps buffalo. Having a bull on hand would make me nervous. We have two male goats. One is a Nigerian dwarf and isn't a problem, but our Nubian buck. Oy. He is sweet as pie....when it's not breeding season! Ha! The worst that has happened so far is to be spit at! yes, goats spit. At least ours does. He does try to kind of nudge us away if he's able. Silly boy.

    Blessings,
    Kerri

    1. The buffalo are on some of our land that we weren't using, but they actually belong to a neighbor. He is raising them to sell for meat. Buffalo meat is actually lean and very good tasting. The bull can maybe be a problem, but as long as they all have enough to eat and water to drink, they should be content. The bull just looks out for the cows; he is their protector.
A few years ago, we kept a few goats for several months that belonged to a former neighbor. They were friendly enough, but they sure ruined some fencing we had between them and the chickens. The bucks apparently pushed and rubbed against it with their horns. I'm really not interested in having any more around.
